Leadership in Recreation covers the concepts and skills required of leaders to conduct recreational activities and to supervise volunteer and paid staff who serve in recreation agencies and organizations. This book draws examples from outdoor recreation, therapeutic recreation, sport and fitness, adventure settings, municipal services, and hospitality and tourism.

In addition to teaching at the higher education level, the author has served professional organizations such as the National Recreation and Park Association and the Society of Park and Recreation Educators. She also has professional experience with the San Diego Recreation and Parks Department, the San Diego–Imperial Counties Girl Scout Council, and the Chateau La Jolla Retirement Center.

The book is primarily for undergraduate students preparing for careers in the management of recreation settings. It can be used for a course on recreation leadership, recreation supervision, or recreation activity methods. As well, it is useful as a resource for practicing recreation professionals.
