Carol Cutler Riddick - Author
Carol Cutler Riddick earned both a BA in sociology and an MS in regional planning from Florida State University.
She completed a PhD in recreation with a minor in gerontology from The Pennsylvania State University.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Gerontological Society also funded Riddick for a postdoctorate in applied gerontological research.
Riddick is an elected fellow to the Gerontological Society of America.
As she pursued her college degrees, Riddick took breaks along the way to work in hospital, camp, casino, and state government settings as well as to be employed as a health educator for Penn State's Cooperative Extension Service.
Riddick is a professor in the Department of Physical Education and Recreation at Gallaudet University; holds a research associate status with the Institute of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, and Well-Being at Buckinghamshire New University (England); and teaches for University of Maryland University College, where she holds adjunct appointments in the Departments of Sociology, Psychology, and Gerontology.
She has presented at international and national conferences, authored book chapters, and published articles that appear in 22 refereed professional journals (including 14 journals outside recreation).
Additionally, Riddick has coauthored grants whose funding has exceeded $500,000; been appointed to the Montgomery County Recreation Department Advisory Board and the National Recreation and Park Association's Professional Certification Examination Committee; been elected twice (the second time as president) to the Board of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators; and provides consultant services to recreation organizations and universities.
Her hobbies include sailing, kayaking, hiking, photography, and traveling.
