Charles E. Hartsoe - Author
Charles E. Hartsoe is a life trustee of the National Recreation and Park Association.
Hartsoe started his career as an NRA intern in Philadelphia under the tutelage of Commissioner Robert W. Crawford.
He later served as assistant executive director of the National Recreation Association, where he was directly involved in the merger negotiations that created the National Recreation and Park Association.
He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois; has taught at the University of Illinois, Pennsylvania State University, and Temple University; and is a professor emeritus of Virginia Commonwealth University.
Hartsoe is a charter member and past-president of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.
Following his academic career, he served as executive director of the National Recreation Foundation until his retirement.
He is a founding member of the Joseph Lee Memorial Library and Archives Committee.
Hartsoe is also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served 4 years' active duty during the Korean War.
