Christen G. Smith - Author
Christen Smith has more than 30 years of broad-based experience in the parks and recreation profession.
Most recently, as a member of the Department of Physical Education and Recreation faculty at Gallaudet University, she taught courses in recreation programming and administration.
She has managed municipal park and recreation services in Florida, Michigan, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
As a member of the Recreation Administration Department faculty at Aurora University, she taught undergraduate- and gradate-level courses in recreation administration.
Smith also developed and managed the Leisure Services Institute, an entrepreneurial center at Aurora University providing leadership training for park and recreation professionals in the greater Chicago area.
Her background also includes 9 years as vice-president with the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
Smith holds a doctorate of philosophy in recreation administration and business administration from Texas Woman’s University.
She completed a master of arts in recreation administration and a master of arts in gerontology, both from the University of Northern Colorado.
She completed her bachelor of science in physical education at North Dakota State University. She is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP).
