David Scott - Author

David Scott joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1994. He retired in 2021 and now holds the title of professor emeritus

Between 1991 and 1994, he served as manager of Research and Program Evaluation for Cleveland Metroparks in Cleveland, Ohio.

Scott’s undergraduate work was completed at Purdue University, where he majored in sociology and wrestled heavyweight for the Boilermakers.

He holds advanced degrees from The Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on recreation specialization, serious leisure, and leisure constraints.

Scott has published over 100 scholarly articles and book chapters and served as the editor of the Journal of Leisure Research from 2002 to 2007. He was elected as a Fellow to the Academy of Leisure Sciences in 2007 and was the 2011 recipient of the Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt Award for Excellence in Recreation and Park Research presented annually by National Recreation and Park Association.

His leisure interests include birdwatching (he has identified over 700 birds in the United States and Canada), reading, bicycling, cooking, and playing games with family and friends.
