Ira G. Shapiro - Author

Dr. Ira G. Shapiro is professor emeritus from the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At Temple University, he served as the chairperson of the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, the director of the Sport and Recreation Management Program, the chairperson of the Sport Management and Leisure Studies Department, a faculty fellow in the Office of the Provost, and associate dean of the College of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

He is the author of the textbook Philosophies of Sport Management, co-author of the textbook Introduction to Leisure Services, author of the textbook Introduction to Leisure Services 2nd ed. and author of the textbook Codes of Ethics and Codes of Conduct in Sport Management. In addition, he is the author or co-author for over 60 publications in state and national journals and has made over 50 presentations at universities, state conferences, and national conferences.  He received the Stauffer Award (the highest award for faculty service to Temple University), the Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University, and the Fred M. Coombs Honor Award (the highest award given to a professional member by the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society).  For his many contributions to the profession, he was awarded lifetime membership in the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society.
