James H. Moss - Author
Jim Moss, attorney, specializes in the legal issues of outdoor recreation and adventure travel companies, guides, outfitters, and manufacturers. He has defended outdoor recreation businesses for more than 25 years and prior to that worked in the insurance industry. Moss has been providing risk management services to the recreation and travel industry for 30 years. He is also an adjunct professor at Colorado Mountain College, teaching in the Ski Area Operations program.
Moss is the author or coauthor of The Lawyer’s Advisor and coauthor of Legal Liability and Risk Management in Adventure Tourism. In addition, he is the editor of Recreation Law (http://recreation-law.com/), an online legal resource for the outdoor recreation industry.
Moss is a U.S. legal representative to the UIAA (Union Internationale des Associations d’Alpinisme) Legal Committee and serves on 27 ASTM committees. He is also a founding member of the National Outdoor Book Awards and the Association of Sports Lawyers Group and a member of the board of directors of the American Alpine Club Library Committee. He is a former board member of the Trade Association of Paddlesports, Galapagos Preservation Society, and the Colorado Association of Environmental Educators. He is a member of The Spokesmen cycling podcast and represents the National Bicycle Dealers Association. He is the district committee chair of the Timberline District, Denver Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Moss has been asked to speak at the Colorado Bar Association and continuing legal education programs. He has made presentations to the Western River Guides Association, the Professional Paddlesports Association, the Boy Scouts of America, the Association for Outdoor Recreation and Education, and the Wilderness Education Association. He has provided training to the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.
