Larry Beck - Author

Larry Beck, Ph.D., is a professor in the L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at San Diego State University.  He has written extensively in the field of heritage interpretation. 

He has received numerous awards for his teaching and scholarship including the Monty Trophy, the highest Distinguished Faculty Award at San Diego State University and the Fellow Award, the highest honor of the National Association for Interpretation.  His scholarship includes a large grant from the National Cancer Institute. 

He writes a column for Legacy magazine titled “Justice for All” that focuses on Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion issues. 

The books Dr. Beck and Dr. Cable have written on heritage interpretation are intended to be used both in the university classroom and as instructional and inspirational guides for those working in the interpretive profession.  For many years, our books were used in the professional certification process by the National Association for Interpretation.  The books are used internationally and have been translated into Chinese and Russian.
