Martin E. Block - Author
Dr. Martin Block has been at UVA since 1992, and teaches in the areas of adapted physical education (APE) and motor development.
Specific coursework that he teaches includes APE for Individuals With Development Disabilities, Physical Education for Children With Severe Disabilities, Seminar in APE, and Motor Development.
Block is also the director of the master's program in APE at UVA, and is the primary supervisor for the Masters students during their practicum in the Albemarle County Public Schools.
He has contacts and has created practicum opportunities for students at the Virginia Institute for Autism, Little Keswick School, Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center, Charlottesville Area Special Olympics, and the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.
Block's major consulting work has been with Special Olympics, Inc., helping them create and implement the Motor Activities Training Program—a special sports program for children and adults with severe disabilities.
As a hobby Block enjoys coaching locally in youth basketball, soccer, and volleyball programs.
Block currently serves as the editor of PALAESTRA.
