Martin E. Block - Author
Martin E. Block, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Virginia, where he is the Director of the Kinesiology for Individuals with Disabilities (KID) graduate program.
Dr. Block is internationally known for his work on including children with disabilities in general physical education as well as his work on programs for children with severe disabilities. More recently, he has written on physical activity for children with autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Block is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles, 23 chapters in books, and six books on adapted physical education and motor development, including A Teachers’ Guide to Including Students with Disabilities in General Physical Education (now in its 4th edition), Developmental and Adapted Physical Activity Assessment (now in its 2nd edition), and Inclusive Physical Education around the World: Origins, Cultures, Practices.
Dr. Block also was a consultant with Special Olympics, Inc., from 1988 to 2000, where he was the primary author of the Motor Activities Training Program (MATP), a sports program for athletes with severe disabilities. He has been the Editor of the journal PALAESTRA for the past 10 years, and he is Past President of the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA) and the National Consortium for Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities (NCPEID).
