Rachel E. Smith - Author

Dr. Rachel E. Smith is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and an instructional assistant professor at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, where she teaches courses in Therapeutic Recreation,  Recreation Management, and Tourism.

Smith has a background in inclusion in public parks and recreation and is a longtime disability advocate. She has served on various committees to advance the rights of persons with disabilities. She has a research interest in universal design, social justice, and inclusion in higher education.

Smith enjoys learning and continues to attend and present at conferences and join in workshops and webinars whenever possible.

She volunteers with Healing Rides, an organization that gives bicycle rides to those who are unable to peddle for themselves. Being a first-generation college student, she enjoys volunteering with TRIO.  She is active in the Illinois Recreation Therapy Association and the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.
