William T. Hey has almost 30 years of higher education experience and has taught many undergraduate and graduate courses in health, sport, and physical education.
Hey is a former high school and college basketball player and received degrees from Northeast Louisiana University (BS), Northwestern State University (MEd), and Southern Illinois University (PhD).
Hey is a former middle school track and basketball coach and university department head.
He has extensive experience in curriculum and course development, leadership, and scholarship. His primary research focus is behavior change and distance learning.
Hey has been a long-time contributor to state, district, and national affiliations and is a multistate, district, and national award-winning professional in the areas of health education and sport.
Hey has received the Health Education Professional of the Year for College/University from the American Association for Health Education and the Health Promotion Medal of Excellence Award (for creativity and dedication to the field of public health education and health promotion) from the Centers for Disease Control/Directors of Health Promotion and Education.
In addition, he has received multiple awards from SHAPE America Southern District including the Sport Professional of the Year Award, Scholar Award, Honor Award, and College/University Health Educator of the Year.
He has received state awards from Alabama's state AHPERD, including the Honor Award and the Health Education Professional of the Year Award, and from Mississippi’s state AHPERD he has received the Educator of the Year Award and College Health Educator Award.
