Betsy Kemeny - Author

Betsy Kemeny is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Certified Professional Gerontologist with 33 years of professional experience.

Her work experiences have included outpatient rehabilitation, adult day, assisted living, hospice, and long-term care. Dr. Kemeny has presented more than 30 times and published 12 peer-reviewed works on the topic of older adults.  

She is currently the chair and associate professor in the Recreational Therapy Department at Slippery Rock University and is a fellow, distinguished in recreational therapy with the National Academy of Recreational Therapists.

Dr. Kemeny received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Wake Forest University, her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her PhD from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  

Since 2014, Dr. Kemeny has served on the board of directors for the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (2014-2022) as member at large, secretary, and president. She is currently the president of the National Academy of Recreational Therapists. Dr. Kemeny also served as the co-chair of the Older Adult Section for ATRA from 2003-2006.
