Betsy Kemeny - Author
Betsy Kemeny is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and Certified Professional Gerontologist with 30 plus years of professional experience. She holds certificate specializations as a Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sport Specialist, Chair Yoga, and Wheelchair Tai Chi. Her work experiences have included outpatient rehabilitation, adult day, assisted living, hospice, and long-term care.
Dr. Kemeny has presented more than 30 times and published 14 peer-reviewed works on the topic of older adults. She is currently an associate professor in the Recreational Therapy program at Slippery Rock University and is a fellow, distinguished in recreational therapy with the National Academy of Recreational Therapy.
Dr. Kemeny received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology with honors at Wake Forest University, her master’s degree in Recreation Administration with a concentration in Recreational Therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Ph.D. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Kemeny has served on the board of directors for the American Therapeutic Recreation Association from 2014-2022, serving as both secretary and president. From 2003-2006, she chaired ATRA's older adult section.
