Rasul A. Mowatt - Author
Dr. Rasul A. Mowatt is the Department Head of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management in the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University. Formally served as a professor in the Departments of American Studies and Geography in the College of Arts + Science as well as professor in the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Studies at Indiana University. His primary areas of research are: Geographies of Race, The Animation of Public Space, and Critical Leisure Studies. Published research and pedagogical work has appeared in a range of journals in leisure studies, tourism, sociology, and geography.
Professionally, Dr. Mowatt has served as president of the Academy of Leisure Sciences, editor and editorial boards for Leisure Sciences: An Interdisciplinary Journal, Journal of Leisure Research, International Journal of the Sociology of Leisure, Schole: A Journal of Leisure Studies Recreation Education, and Parks, Recreation, and Tourism in Public Health, as well as on boards and committees for the City Parks Alliance, American Association of Geographers, and National Recreation and Parks Association.
Additionally, Dr. Mowatt has worked for the Champaign Park District, American Friends Service Committee, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. His research, teaching, and service is strongly centered on critiquing society for the issues that are prevalent and impacting the quality of life and social well-being of people.
