Dementia Care Programming: An Identity-Focused Approach explores dementia caregiving and its opportunities for adventure, nurturing, being nurtured, and creative problem solving. When caregivers can meet their residents’ needs at particularly trying times, they also have opportunities to experience that magical “high” that comes from meeting a challenge head-on and succeeding.

Perhaps one of the most powerful messages in this book is that when caregivers strive to empathize with their residents' experiences of dementia, they move away from the power struggles that have caused much of the residents’ resistance to care, and they become more creative and more successful caregivers.

The author is a recreation therapist and Certified Professional Consultant on Aging with a master’s degree in health leadership and policy: senior’s care. She is also the assistant executive director and director of lifestyles and therapeutic services at a local Vancouver, British Columbia, complex care home.
